Initial Evaluation of the Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU

The Czech Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports concluded presidency activities in all four areas: youth, education, sports and R&D. The priorities were fully met and the six-months´ work was succesfully handed over to the Swedish Presidency.

This year, the eleventh year of the popular Bambiriad organised by the Czech Council of Children and Youth attracted approximately  200,000 visitors. It was officially launched on Thursday 4 June 2009 at Střelecký island in Prague.  

 

Nanotechnology for sustainable economy

Starting today, the Prague Congress Centre hosts a four-day Euronanoforum 2009 conference. Until Friday, 9 June, more than 800 experts from around the world will discuss nanotechnologies and their application in a wide spectrum of fields: medicine, environment, energy production and storage, industrial processes etc.

On May 28th Brussels hosted the sixth "Space Council" which dealt with the relations between innovation and space research and their influence on European competitiveness.

A traditional meeting of Directors General for Vocational Education and Training (DG VT) was held in Prague during May 18-19, 2009.  

 

Professor Milena Rychnovská wins the Milada Paulová Award

Prague hosted the joint conference of the Czech Presidency and the European Commission entitled “Changing Research Landscapes: 10 years of activities ‘Women and Science’” on 14 May 2009. Czech Minister of Education, Youth and Sports Miroslava Kopicová used this opportunity to present an award for female scientists.    

 

Council approves evaluation of European cooperation in youth field

Meeting in Brussels today, the Council of Ministers for Youth, chaired by Czech Minister of Education, Youth and Sports Miroslava Kopicová, adopted the Conclusions on evaluation of the current framework for European cooperation in the youth field and future perspectives for the renewed framework.  

 

Informal meeting of Ministers for Competitiveness in Prague

On 3 and 4 May 2009 an informal meeting of Ministers for Education, Science and Research was chaired by Czech Minister of Education, Youth and Sports Ondřej Liška. He invited his colleagues to an informal dinner at Troja Castle in Prague where the Czech band Mako Mako provided the musical accompaniment.

The Benelux Ministers together with the Czech Presidency and the European Commission are fully aware of the student demonstrations currently taking place on the margins of the Bologna Ministerial Conference on higher education reform.  

 

Education, research and innovation key to Western Balkans development, region’s ministers agree in Sarajevo today

Sarajevo, 24 April 2009 – Western Balkans ministers agreed today in Sarajevo to launch preparations of a regional research strategy, under the auspices of the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) Secretariat and the Czech Presidency of the European Union.  

 

Deal reached by Czech Presidency to help EU research

The Czech Presidency has brokered agreement between the Member States and the Parliament on a proposal to establish a European Metrology Research Programme (EMRP). Its aim is to boost the efficiency of European research in the field of metrology by coordinating funding as well as capacities in science, development and organisation.
